I do not connect using VMware, but I do use desktop Ubuntu. Have the Nokia turned OFF when connecting to the computer. Run the flasher script as root. When the flasher says "Suitable USB device not found, waiting" turn on the Nokia by holding the "Home" key while pressing the "On/Off" button.
