I think its a revision issue as mine is like yours on the right and is an older revision while the newer ones may seem to be like those on the left...
Sorry it took a while, but I took baby steps and just now learned to turn on the developer mode to get to the terminal, and typed what you wrote. I went back and edited my original post to have that info there. They have the same RM-696 board.
The one on the left in the picture is 64G, revision 1601.
The one on the right is 16G, revision 1603.

In the mean time, I've had more replies. It seems that there's no real solid reason for one lens vs the other?

I've not done enough extended test, but a few pictures of the same item/situation (indoors with light through window), the left one ( 64G, rev 1601) gave me the initial impression that it's truer to the color that I see;the one on the right had a warmer, reddish cast (16G, rev 1603). Again, that's very general, and before I get more used to the camera, I can't be sure.
