I am not 100% sure on this, but if you were to get a customs fee (which happens VERY seldom), I think the person you are shipping it to would get billed and not you? (or do they infact send a fee to both recipients?)

I have shipped things to Canada and have never gotten any bills from the U.S. Customs office. I also don't know anyone that has. Although, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all.
