a) why not ssh to a host, and telnet from that host to your devices?
b) I would, in fact, also like a real working telnet on the NIT platform ... not for logging into hosts, but for connectivity trouble shooting (telnet to port 25 of my mail server, to be sure that it's accepting connections from my NIT, etc.). Telnet is an amazingly useful program.
