It might also help to know what it is you are trying to do. For example, you are more likely to find that the wifi already in your N900 can do what you want provided you have the right combination of software in it. Also, for an external device, you might actually find that building the driver for the kernel which your N900 runs might be easier and faster than compiling a whole kernel. Then again, what is it you want to do?
