I don't know whether the following is a bug or a feature: When you scroll to read earlier messages and don't have any contact with the screen, any new message would bring you down to the latest message. While it doesn't matter if reading one or two lines but if reading a conversation you need to make sure contact is maintained with the screen so it doesn't scroll down...
