would it help using a different text editor. if so which one?
Open terminal type: devel-su at which it'll ask for your password which by default is rootme unless you changed it... Then do the one-line sed command and voila done

If you use nano same you need to be root i.e. devel-su in terminal first as this is above the user's rights which are limited to /home/user/ and its sub-directories...

Oh and I understand your frustration so if you get more "backtalk from the friggnin matrix" doing the above, copy it here or post a screenshot for all to enjoy and pin-point what needs to be done
