The case I have for my old Fujitsu Stylistic 500 has straps such as those you envision, though on the Stylistic's case they run diagonally to form an "X", not horizontally and vertically. Such a configuration would seemingly work well for Internet tablet cases also.

(And for Hedgecore, the Stylistic's case wasn't leather.)
