For no apparent reason, they've removed Python as a stand-alone runtime.
apt-get install Python got me Python 2.4, which is of no use.
The Python 2.5 upgrade link at Maemo.org won't work on it.
You have to find an app that needs it,
and has the dependencies and whatever set right.
I tried a half dozen before I tried Canola, which gets Python.
Many apps will either refuse to install or install and not work,
because there's no Python.
Anyway, sorry for the rant.
Install Canola, install battery-status, and uninstall Canola.

Oy. So I just did that, ran battery-status, and it doesn't work.
