sudo gainroot
cd /usr/share
tar -cvzf /home/user/MyDocs/zoneinfo_bkp.tar.gz zoneinfo
to have a safe backup (just in case).
Good to have a second approval

As I have put some big warnings in the OP (including: make a backup), I assume the persons who try it are smart enough. But I will add it, just in case someone ignores the warning.

BTW, I would not find it a bad idea if the CSSU team also addressed this subject, just like they updated the (compromised) certificates.
