I see wget included in Sailfish (which is GPLv3) as part of Nemo packages. I don't think Sailfish has any problems with that. The whole issue is around Mer itself. I.e. it gives a potential for some vendors to go that route, but it doesn't mandate it. Sailfish (as a vendor) already obviously doesn't go there - so don't worry.
