Along the same lines as toodledo I can recommend (and use) taskfreak ( http://www.taskfreak.com ).

Freeware. Based on php and mysql. I use it for home, and for organising my team's tasks. Yes we have Office 2007 on our work PCs but for actually managing your list, having it available on the web (and via an RSS feed) makes life easier.
