Isn't that just a limitation for systems that simply bring up /dev without a /dev node helper like udev?
This problem would easily be solved by mknod.
mmcblk0 is just a block device after all.
You could rebuild Harmattan kernel with GPT support, and convert it to GPT, and have a field day.
