Good. My opinion is that they would do far better to replace him with someone who can interact with the public and make them feel excited and welcomed. If it means he can concentrate on his talents while someone else takes up the communications efforts, I think it was a fairly good maneuver on his part. Not everyone can maintain a friendly rapport with the communities and they should EXPECT it to be thankless but an expert communicator can accelerate things far, far more than technical expertise alone and that in itself can be gratifying to someone who is good.
