I had this problem too until I got it set up right.

The basics

-use network mode
-make sure both your lap top and your n800 are connected to your wireless router.
-make sure that the IP address of your computer is registered in Garnet VM in the proper place.
-Seems that some versions of Datebk work with it and
some don't. Versions of Datebk5 work. I listed version information in a Palm thread very recently
