I would really, realy recommend you to update the version numbers in the debian/changelog file properly on every public release you make (you can use the tool "dch -i" to make this process very easy), the version you currenty use seems to be the one which is inside upstreams svn-repository, it should probably be something like 2.5.99+svn20080127-1 to match the current status better.
