For ports like this, a garage project is almost certainly overkill (IMHO, anyway).

I'd suggest using the mud project (but then I would). You can then:

• Have your patch maintained in a Maemo-specific subversion.
• Get tools for maintaining the Maemo patch and building new upstream versions
• Auto-upload of versions to maemo Extras (in time)
