Not to forget the journal. Same as NTFS, by the way. FAT is very simple. Which has its advantages[1] but also disadvantages.

[1] I once tried installing Windows XP on my other half's netbook, known for its very slow SSD. It was unusable. Disabling paging, caching and other disk writes improved responsiveness slightly (10-20%) but a real boost (about 1,000%) came from reformatting the SSD from NTFS to FAT. (Eventually we ended up rolling back to Linux anyway )
