especially if logged in with ssh (or on the N900 itself, in a X terminal otherwise) you may want to issue a

sync

every now and then
forces to write all the data physically
there are no caches on µSD devices, but you never know where the OS may choose to keep data "on a temporary basis"

(been using a 64GB UHS-1 SanDISK since ~~end of last~~ a year on the N900 w/out problem)
