I had something similar happen to me, including not being able to read new SMS's on my N9. However when I connected to N9 using Nokia Suite I could read & send messages just fine from my PC (though still not on the N9).

The solution that worked for me was to back up my contacts, etc. then reset "Tracker". Afterwards it all started working again.
