You see, for example the "old" ps1 was not that fast as the ps3, so the electonic parts inside the ps1 will last longer compared with the one of the ps3(even if ps3 has some newer and better materials) and the reason is that the ps1 will not get "pushed" to work faster and faster as the ps3...

Now about your n900, I don't know why it acts like this... It is just strange because it was actually working and it was just left in the box without really work...

P.S: Do you have the n900 with the broken usb as well??
If yes, why don't you try to repair that one?
It's not quite like that. I remember how I pushed my old LG Optimus one. While it was an old phone I made it run the latest Android 4.0.4. The Galaxy S3 was just a concept back then, that announced it will run on the 4.0.4. with dual core or whatever and I was allready having that on my poor low end phone. That phone developed a whole concept an android phone running with a WP7.5 interface (which was very rare), and got it up to 4.3 STABLE. After the development stopped, I sold that phone, and even today that phone is still working like charm (and yes, with that Nexus Equinox Android 4.3).

The USB port on that one it can't be fixed since the motherboard was damaged permanently. Also the flex cable from the motherboard to the SD Card reader is also broken.
