Its atually of the question "Why android can only connect to infastrure mode and N9 can connect to both adhoc and infrastructure?"

As N9 supports connecting to both modes, then N9->Android hotsport works and other way around doesnt work by default (It only works if you install CM10.[12] custom rom to your Android, and after that your Android can also connect to both adhoc and infrastructure AP's.

Some day even AOSP https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/43070/ might get support adhoc mode by default, but those changes have not landed in yet.
