Even you can't be that stupid to contrive that meaning.
You clearly realise to lock down a system you only need a single closed component, piece of code, license, patent etc etc whatever even if every other part is totally open.
That is enough to provide a chilling effect on any specific distribution.
Hence my comment about Jolla opening up its UI will easily allow it to compete with Android, something Microsoft will never be able to achieve.
Closed components of Maemo has been covered sufficiently for your understanding in too many other topics so please use the search feature.
However before Android, Maemo was probably the most open phone OS, crippled by being locked to Nokia specific devices, it was never intended to compete with Android.
The more Open OS won that race, refer to earlier graphs.
My points are solely raised in connection with Nokias stock performance or rather lack of performance.
