im gonna advocate my approach to backup:
it allows me to:
backup fully automatically every night at 5am, including precisely what i want to include. it currently includes everything that is in the stock backup and more.
view and EDIT {in plaintext, on my laptop}, my sms, call log, installed packages, configurations, wifi passwords, etc, and have the changes propagate to my phone.
this means adding a wifi network, installing a package, rearranging my launcher buttons, etc, is done by modifying a text file on my computer.
restore a newly flashed or brand new N9 to precisely how my phone was, literally without touching the phone beyond plugging it into the computer.
ive lost two N9s, one stolen, one destroyed in a hurricane, and both times lost only a few hours of data {two pictures, a text message or two}. i also reflash my phone occasionally, with the full confidence that i wont be losing any data and that the restore can run on its own.
everything is in my
n9 repo on github
it is not too hard to get started, but requires a linux box. it doesnt, however, require linux expertise. if you can run ssh, you can do this. if anyone wants to try this out, lemme know and ill do my best to help.
