The fact that your '--list-cameras' option does not show you anything tells me that something is wrong with your installation. As a guess, did you follow my instructions in:

http://members.shaw.ca/dmenns2/README.libgphoto2.dare

...particularly with steps 6A and 6B (re: ldconfig configuration?)

I think that is what tells 'gphoto2' where to find the camera definitions.
