Being unable to lock/unlock is a deal-breaker, it keeps the tablet from being a mobile device because I can't pack it to take with me (grumble grumble no metal case grumble) so I can't use KDE.

Also, I would really rather not need to enter a 5-8 character password to unlock the tablet every time I want to use it - the default maemo way isn't great (compared to the 770) but it does work.

I have no idea what you are asking me? You can lock the device using the same way as in maemo? (using the power button) You can also lock the device using lock on the KDE menu, if you are running v2. You can not unlock via the KDE method on a n800 because you have no keyboard to enter the password. You could maybe set the user password to nothing and just hit enter, but I wouldnt recommend it.
