I too had the 'unable to install' error with the appearing icon and non-functioning program, and had to figure out how to get root to be able to remove the failed install.

For reference, this is on my N810, using the instructions on the Canola website. I've never had any previous version of Canola installed.

I have the following repositories:

Nokia catalog
Nokia catalog (3rd party software)
Nokia System Software Updates
maemo Extras
Graham Cobb's repository (www.cobb.uk.net/apt user)
Maemo Hackers (maemo-hackers.org/apt main)
FBReader Repository (www.fbreader.org/maemo user)
Vagalume Last.fm Client (apt.igalia.com vagalume)
maemo (repository.maemo.org free non-free)

That's it -- very few applications installed so far, as you can imagine. I can give you a full list if that would be useful in tracking down what might be causing the dependency issue, as some were installed directly.

I realize this is beta software, and am quite intrigued by what I've seen in screenshots and heard about the program. But as a "wanting to use it out-of-the-box" user, the failed install/uninstall experience isn't a good one.

Now that I've apparently gotten it successfully removed, I won't be retrying the install process again unless you need/want me to reproduce errors. I realize I could install it via apt-get now, but I'd rather test out the 'end result' and install via the application manager as normal.
