The USB Ethernet adapter is for the tablet, not for your pc, unless they do some MAC filtering (like Tz1 gives information about) you can then plug your tablet in a ethernet plug and access the network...

I don't get the IT dude, if they simply provide a wifi accesspoint that cannot route to the internal network there is no problem....
