or if you cannot get your USB 3G (either HSDPA or EVDO) modem to work with your N8x0 then consider a Cradlepoint PHS300 (
http://www.cradlepoint.com/
) with a USB EVDO modem.
There is another thread in the Newbies section about this or at least it was steered that way...

Actually I no longer need a cell at all. Well, I keep a throw-away with an unactivated prepaid card around just in case everything else takes a dump. Otherwise I use Skype everywhere thanks to the Mobile Broadband data plan (in my case EVDO) I have with Millenicom (
http://www.millenicom.com
). One of my desires of from the N8x0, if I decide that is the device, is to use that service and the CDU680 EVDO USB modem I have. If I cannot get it to work with the tablet directly then I might consider using that Cradlepoint router. Google a bit and it will make sense. The router supports EVDO USB modems and acts as a Wifi Hotspot. So you can connect to the router using the tablet's wifi and viola instant 3G MBB connection to the web no overpriced and redundant cell phone needed. Plus with the router option I can be using one device and my better half can be using another and we can share the connection while we sit and have coffee somewhere or even are sitting under a tree in the park. See that router also has a Li-ION battery. Kinda cool...
I am not sure there are pocket/travel routers for HSDPA but I would imagine there must be some by now. And for the near future forget WiMax unless you live in a beta test area. And how useful is that for a "mobile" service? 3-years and we'll see something faster like WiMax...
