To be honest, I feel somewhat baffled by that. ARM is the future about as much as x86 is, if not more, and anyone silly enough to bury a popular package on that platform just because it does not build rather than getting their acts together and fixing it is IMO digging their own grave. That does not give me much confidence in the future of Debian as such.
