Trying to install 10 applications on-line I am visiting respositories
and download every version of packages, libraries to see
it works or it doesn't work.
It takes me hours, days, weeks.

I live off-wifi and download packages first to PC than to tablet, trying to install them.

It takes me hours to match application packages with libraries, dependencies.
- i find this to be a valid complaint... however, if you just enable Nokia's 'official' repositories, you'll have the latest and greatest for the NIT...

- the scattering of repositories, IMHO, is a result of convenience of available resources for a particular developer and the inconvenience of using hosting facilities at maemo.org... the site itself is a bit wonky... for example, i registered as a user, posted a comment to a news article, but the comment is 'invisible' to anyone unless i log in - even though other comments are visible (strange behavior)... not only that, but a javascript menu appears overlaid (on top of) and blocking the 'normal' site menu, with menu items that takes one to a commercial content-management web site!

- developers working alone can (and have) lead to lib incompatibilities for NIT applications, as most (apparently) work individually rather than in concert - although there is good discussion and give-and-take in the mailing lists, it's a shame there isn't more coordination...

- this shows in other ways, such as applications having different menuing schema, different key controls, etc.

- but there is nothing wrong with all this! this is the way FOSS things work... if you want something bad enough, scratch your own itch!

- but all said and done, i am very happy with the availability and breadth of applications for the NIT... could things be better? of course! i'd really like to see:

1. 'mirroring' of maemo.org's and other repositories

2. an automatically generated torrent for a DVD image containing a snapshot of NIT software for os2007/os2008

3. improvement of maemo.org's web site (or better bandwidth)...

4. adoption of regular .deb installs, with a synaptic-type interface for app/system software management...

5. better documentation of the NIT file system and hardware...

- but i am very grateful for what is available and for the work of all developers who have contributed to this platform... i believe the NIT is destined to be a classic...
