So Nokia killed the Nokia Asha software platform that was used by the Asha 501 that they bought from Smarterphone.

No wonder Nokia is in trouble. For the last 3 years they have been trying so many different operating systems and killing the last one they tried, leaving users only with the instruction to upgrade to a new phone.
This can't possibly be an efficient way to develop a phone.

N9, maemo/MeeGo-Harmattan
Pureview 808. Symbian/Nokia Belle
Lumia 900, Windows Phone 7
Asha 311, Nokia Series 40
Asha 503, Nokia Asha platform
X, Nokia Asha X platform

And Nokia hasn't even releases phone running real MeeGo of Meltime

Nokia says they will keep supporting WP8 and the new Nokia X, but who knows? Nokia doesn't have a good trackrecord anymore and Microsoft never did when it came to embedded devices (Windows CE, PocketPC, Windows Mobile, Zune, Kin, WP 7)
