I wanted to agree with dsmudger.

The 770 has the potential to be a great portable media device. However, anyone purchasing one as a music player should be aware of the following:

1. Sound quality and volume - As mentioned, there is no EQ. Buy a good set of earplugs or headphones. This will help with the quality and volume. Check the specification for frequency response and dbm/Volt (or equivalent).
You want the low number of the freq response to be low, and the dbm/Volt to be as high as you can get.

2. Editing play lists in far from elegant. AFAIK, songs must be added one at a time, and there is no ranking, genre selection, etc. There is random play within the active playlist.

3. There is no fade function.

4. Beautiful, high-res display, but no visualization, no album art, or even a cool-looking UI.

5. Previously mentioned limitation of the RS-MMC card.

6. Sound will skip when the machine gets busy - for example when rendering a web page, so surfing and listening is going to be a bit irratating at times.

I really like my 770, and I do use it _alot_ as a media player, but I feel that it is only fair to warn those dropping $350 to $400 to use the 770 primarily as a MP3 player of the above.

The 770 is a much better as an MP3 Player than an Ipod is as a web-surfer
