I've posted to code-review page, which despite giving name still posted as anonymous

From what I can see, our version uses some of the files affected. It seems we add extra information to mkspecs for example, where as patch wants to remove completely. The total number of changes caused by the suggested patch isn't too huge so just need to see what happens and decide where we go from here.
