Putting USB type C in the Neo900 would bring it's disadvantages and (almost) none of it's advantages.

disadvantages:
So far it's not widely spread and depending on the future market situation and your personal hardware update cycle you'll have to use that special "Neo900 cable" for the next 2-5 years. Sounds like bitten fruit to me.
By the time this situation changes (iff it ever does) there will probably be a Neo901 or some upgrade board.

advantages:
USB type C supports high power supply and data transfer capabilities. None of the Neo900 hardware can handle these, so this point is moot.
In addition type C has no "upside down" problem when inserting it. That might be an actual benefit, but I don't see it being that huge.
