I am not convinced. IMO the main reason is that their devices simply do not work in the US and the patents, although a valid point on thier own right, are a convenient excuse.

It would not be the first or the last time some lame argument was given to justify one of their shotcomings. The inability to implement a call recorder was a prime example. Until it was eventually implemented, not having one was supposed to be a "security feature".
