This is awful!

I'm a recent n900 convert and since joining I've found the repository situation to be one of the most confusing things about the platform.

Legally, what can we do as a community about this?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but i was under the impression that some of the apps in that repository were proprietary maemo components that are essential... is it even legal to distribute them ourselves?

In an ideal world, we could just upload the archived repository to maemo.org, and write a clear wiki page explaining what to do.

Hopefully the great work being done by the Fremantle Porting Task Force will mean we soon won't even need the proprietary packages from Nokia, but until then...
