Exactly. Which is why I'm finally getting off of the stupid "smartphone" merry-go-round myself. The smartest phone today is one that handles telephony alone; everything else is just a crass attempt to dig more dollars out of your wallet for no significant value in return.

The Jolla tablet is arriving just in time for me to shift all my mobile computing materials onto a handy non-phone portable device.
You are «getting off of the stupid "smartphone" merry-go-round myself» because there is no one that can provide you what you want and that's exactly the problem. As tablet is nice thing, it's huge and not that "mobile" in sense of size, you have netbooks and even laptops today with same size/weight, so why would anyone who wants real OS go with tablet, if they can have full computer with same size? The whole point is to have something small and mobile (in a pocket) that can replace it (maybe not fully, but that's why we still have laptops and even desktops)
