IME the Chinese and for that matter Koreans and Japanese are good at improving ideas, copying, making them cheaper but rarely do they ever come out with an original piece of work.

I worked for a decade with Japanese software companies and even they themselves would admit that innovation was lacking.

We have smartphones today. I would think that in ten years time we won't or they'll be as unfashionable as a Nokia dumbphone. We'll have something else and the something else won't come out of China. I'd be very surprised if it's not USAian with Europeans having already invented it but been utterly rubbish at convincing the world they need it. And then copied by someone in China. That's generally how history works.
