We have a few fires here..
B.C. has about 87 of them going right now..
we are a little ahead of the yearly norm...
Alberta and Saskatchewan are also burning...
It isn't unusual or odd...always been fighting them.
Problem has always been that the conifers do their reproductive cycle "through" it getting tinder dry...then forest fires take huge sections (hectares) out...and the cones are prepped for the next cyclical generation of forest.
That is how it has always been in a proper climate..
But now...the moisture, snow and rainfall just isn't there in the proportions needed to keep the cycle stable...It's getting dryer and dryer year after year out in the west here...Whatever tree planting is being done...should be stopped...and leafy or rather deciduous trees should be planted to help retain more moisture from the air and provide a better trap for it.....it may help stave off the worst of the climate change effects..as well...
and decids don't go up in flames like a matchstick dipped in kerosene ...like pines and cedars...
I used to study horticulture amoungst other things when I was younger...
and I worked planting and tending trees in my youth for a few years .....great job...truly physically and spiritually fulfilling...
