It's an O.K. place to start and can be uninstalled easily.

Do you have any programming background?

There are many, many, free development Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) that run on Windows to get started programming without requiring all of Linux.

I like Dev-C++ which uses ported Linux development packages to build Windows programs using C and\or C++: http://www.bloodshed.net/dev/devcpp.html
