Just wanted to report that since a couple of hours I'm getting the exact same error... Having been using Whatsup for a while now, only registered once with my Jolla, never had any problems.

Love the app, thanks a lot for creating and maintaining it Cepi! Hope it gets fixed

Seems like a proper fix to me, however, I have no idea where to change the 'resource' line for Whatsup. I checked out ~/.config/cepiperez/whatsup.conf but it's not in there. I guess it's hard-coded into the application itself?
