Dave ...
absolutely right.
And not just aliens.
Global market meltdown even.
I spent more than 1/2 my life living on the family farm, or off grid,
spent a few years living in the cities to reintroduce myself back into humanity ...it has a few pluses ...but more minuses ...
1 thing I did learn is... the average civilized person [regardless of country or ethnicity] nowadays is absolutely lost on how to grow their own food, even gardening, few actually "cook" or "bake" anymore [[here anyway...for example...here is a shocker for you all...it's been a few years past now.. five I think...the very last Canadian fruit and vegetable canning plant closed...meaning we as a nation do not grow, produce, can, ship and sell our own fruit and vegetables [to our own population even] ..meaning the writing is on the wall for us here. Also if distribution collapses due to economic, political, natural resource, or natural calamity collapse. The entire continent has at it's disposal only 3 days of food supplies in every warehouse, distribution center, and store. It won't be mayhem, it won't be chaos, we will simply be f**ked. It will mean the disintegration of law and order and the rule of governance and civil human behaviour...full stop.]]
So whether it is aliens...or the "big one" hitting my coast, or the 2nd civil war in the states, or the fact very quickly the entirety of the U.S. is turning into a dustbowl from climate change which will spur mass migrations, or a terrorist "dirty bomb" or whatever....that will probably be the end of civilization as we know it now ... here on the continent.
The upswing to all this is...
the corporations have done an absolutely fabulous job at making people sooo dependent on what they produce...that they provide ready to eat food....the populace doesn't know how to grow, raise, kill, prepare, preserve, or even cook or bake their own food anymore.
This is double edged.
Bad point of the sword #1- for the 1st bit ...people will be desperate and kill and steal for food.
Bad point of the sword #2- when the food easily taken starts to run out...foraging and stealing and killing farmers who are a little more removed but still accessible to get to.
Good point of the sword #1- Alot of very stupid, very ignorant and very bad people will starve in very short order after they kill and steal the golden geese [farmers] .
Bestest point of the sword EVER #2- City dwellers, "civilized" people here...are terrified of the dark [ and when I mean dark ...I mean no roads, no streetlights..etc] ...which I always tell my friends...get in trouble with sketchy people ...don't run into lit places...run for the trees...run for the bush...city people won't follow...especially at night. So many of my friends are absolutely terrified of the woods...or the woods in the dark.
I just keep trying to reinforce to them...
"whatever is in the woods... will behave logically like whatever it is... should."
Don't fear that.
Momma bears with cubs during only 1 time period of the year are really a threat. Not to mention...you WILL smell the bear almost a mile off before you see it.
Big cats only stalk people if they are starving, which is pretty rare, and even then making yourself look big by putting your walking stick on top of your head will scare them off.
Don't run.
Don't turn your back to them.
They will jump on you instinctively ...both bear and cat are faster than you.
They will bear you to the ground and now your hands are pinned under you by their weight. They understand "paws have claws" and so incapacitate yours.
They will then go for your head and throat while you are [trying to scream] not to shut you up of course...but because for these hunters...the head has teeth. They will just bite your face off to render your teeth harmless...as far as they believe.
Animal logic is predictable.
Human beast is not.
Go in the wild here...make sure you have a walking stick and a "claw" or too as well for your own good.
Don't need a gun ..odds are you won't hit these boys when they rush you anyway.
Pepper spray is good at really pissing off an animal IF it stands still in front of you long enough to let you try to find it , pull it out , point and spray.
I don't suggest it.
Good walking stick.
Hickory is good...thorn too..
alot of tough woods for walking sticks.
A good Arkansas Toothpick is best.
I have a couple..always go with me.
Matching set, ambidextrous grip for either hand,
carved elk antler grip,
double edged damascus,
course I made em
Their both huge.
Nastier than bear or cat claws.
Forget the tiny over-rated Bowie.
Animal logic is predictable.
Human beast is not.
Fear the random illogic and irrationality of modern man instead..and take to the hills.
