Actually, I kind of gave up on the HTC mail app that came with my phone long ago, and went ahead and installed Google Mail instead. Same with the HTC "internet" app; I installed Chrome. There are decent Android alternatives for pretty much anything (other than the Phone app I suppose, although I haven't looked for an alternative Android Phone app yet).

But yeah, if the manufacturer with some basic understanding of such things should work would implement those, then the end user's experience may be much smoother.
I know I've said this before, but I believe Jolla was using the Phone (and the Tablet) mainly to advertise Sailfish. As such, it was more important to show off capabilities and features than to provide a smooth day-to-day experience...
