yup.
we got about an inch where I live...last night...today it melted away.
we may get more snowfalls before march...
our winter pretty much starts in January here.
20 years ago on the island if we were lucky we would get perhaps a week ...really good a few weeks...where snow would stay ...
but it is rare.
Looking up at the mountains...they are getting some snowpack ..which is good.
We get less and less snow on the mountains every year here...
Skiing, tobogganing, all the fun winter stuff...out here on the coast happens at altitude...far cry from when I was young and lived in northern ontario.. -20, -30, and lower...all winter...and snow on the ground all winter....now...well...hell...they just got blasted with a storm...but less than a couple weeks ago it was +15 where my family back in ontario lives...the planet is most definitely in a worrisome state....
hell...just 3 weeks ago I saw...not once but twice...a hummingbird ...
and I've heard they have been hanging around at the southern tip of the island in Victoria...migratory patterns are messed up I believe.
God help the poor little guys in this -5 degree cold currently.
I do hope they have sped to mexico (like they should have last fall)

Well...with all that has been done to this planet in the last 100 years alone...one cannot be surprised at rapid change.
The challenge to species that cannot adapt quick enough...means hardship and disappearing species at a phenom. rate with the enviro. deciding icestorms one day and a heatwave the next.
I'm not bleeding-heart-liberal-weeping ..cripes I'm Canadian...grew up in a harsh enough climate....and ....hell darwinian law makes for a hard task master...and this planet...this universe and it's natural laws...with it's random experimentation in survival of the fittest and evolution through environmental adaptation over millions of years has been an even harder mistress ...
This planet has reared us, nurtured us...
Sure we've done damage to this place....
But the reality too is...
this place tries to kill us just as readily.
How we treat each other and the other species and this place bothers me more...
The thought of a silent world with few if any birds singing, diversity in trees and plants and flowers and bees and bugs, and animals...
that is an unbearable thought...
Only what livestock we can keep alive...and ...people...
Not my idea of paradise I can say...
I imagine I won't be long for this world...
if that possibility comes about.
A truly grim place with no natural diversity...
gives me the shivers...

I mean it is really about how nobly or ignobly we go down.
I opt for nobility in the face of disaster...
doing what one can...
It beats the hell out of fighting, killing, cheating, stealing and all the other horrible "-ings" many seem to be opting for....
sinking below the level of a thinking, reasoning, compassionate species...

So my philo. explained...
back to topic

I wish I could say we will get more snow...
but in the immediate the forecast at least for the pole is to be warmer than ever...at least for this winter. Very worrisome.
Perhaps next winter will be colder....it not being an el nino year...
lets hope the planet "right's" itself like a ship in a storm....and holds the course for us...straight and true ...like she always has...(which is a x-mas wish I have every year...)...

I'm not sure about the rest of the planet ( I know there have been record floods in locales on the planet along with other unsettling and detrimental phenom. but...) ....here..in Canada...the scientists are saying the conditions in my country have become very extreme....and it is next to impossible to ignore the effect it is having.
Let me put it this way.
The last prime minister we had (who was a genius at managing our economy through a terrible global situation..also...) was muzzling our scientists for a decade plus...literally...they were not allowed to speak out...also...archived records on the climate were systematically destroyed...also funding to the scientists was cut...drastically...
I'm sure the point was...if there are no records...and no specialists...or few...who can talk about the grim state of things....and those that are still around are muzzled...well...then... everything must be fine....right?
