Well even that could help - the original Jolla phone was already not high-end when it launched back in November 2013. But yesterdays hihg-end is todays low-end, so even if we get a 2016 non-highend phone it might still be a substantial improvement over a 2013 non-highend phone.

Still, it would be really really nice if it had a ToH interface of some sort (even if not compatible with the existing one) so that a keyboard could be properly connected to it.
