Agree fully. But in those cases where you have options, but not yet decided which path you might go down; it's tricky to state just that.

I've been in that position where I had pending deliverables, some hurdles/obstacles and had to use the dreaded word "soon" in my communication. Later, it just became "There's problems but there's options." and list out the options.

In this case, the options do not favor the backers nor fans. Unfortunately we're not a society that weathers the unfortunate and painful truth well. I'd just rather take a bitter pill quickly as opposed to the drawn out torture.
