You see the problem here that we (not only as company but any mortal here) sometimes face problems that have no right solution. Or in other words you have several options but none of them is good for you. And despite it you still need to make a decision. Maybe hard one, maybe not the best one, but you can't just postpone it every day. The resolution can't be done but just sitting and waiting for a miracle, it only makes thing worse.
As about dialog you mentioned above, where exactly were any intentions to communicate somethign with the community. there is no dialog, there is twitter, IRC and TJC where community gives input and Jolla decides if to get back to them or not at all.
The best example is paid apps thread started by Jolla asking for input and after that disappearing (
https://together.jolla.com/question/...-applications/
). And do not say anything about money, resources or startup - it was way before they had a problems with money and they started this thread, so they should think about resources upfront.
As about Tablet situation, maybe you think they give you all info, but there were delays a lot of times and none of those times it was communicated upfront. I do not believe that they just found out about all the problems with delivery/production and finance in the same day after we already had dozen of delays. And somehow it happened at the end of even Jolla took part in. So do you think it will be coincidence that they "found out" and told you just after the event? Or would it be coincidence that they would give you bad news about tablet after MWC/Intex phone release?
I know it's bad PR for them, but still they made a commitment they should stay by, and it's not about delivery - it's about taking responsibility even if they fail.
People can understand failure, they do not understand companies that run away.
It feels like some small kid started something way bigger that he can handle - so he moves to new project the next day (see all the "captains" of the boat running like rats, or you would say it has nothing to do with that?).
I backed a lot of projects this year, some delivered, some delayed, for my luck none have failed, but all of them communicated thru progress. Yes there would be always ranting people, but the question if it's justified or not.
And the last thing on topic I would say is that uneducated crowd will always want to burn "the witches" on fire. And you can blame them, but also you can blame those who did not delivered them knowledge. As if you successfully pass that knowledge and make them understand, they would be able to accept things bad or good as they would be able to understand them. See the situation with tablet as something that people have no idea about. They paid money and they did not get anything and all the knowledge they get is "soon", "maybe" or silence. they have nothing left rather than pick up torches, especially if it's their saving that were gambled.
If Jolla did nothing wrong and they are not ashamed of their choices - they would not hide it in secrecy, but if they do - there is reason for that. We usually embarrassed to tell bad things and almost never about good things.
