- haven't looked at what 'halt' is linked to on the tablet, but i can tell you that generally one shouldn't use halt to bring down a Linux system... dunno if filesystems are unmounted and services stopped properly... could munge or hork the system?

- best to use:

/sbin/shutdown -h now

- AFA power: i see what you're talking about... the only 'longish' use i see for my dongle/USB connection would be for a serial I/O adapter (used to control an X-10 pad or high-frequency radio transceiver)...

- otherwise i generally just attach a thumbdrive or HD for file transfers and backups...
