Agreed. I also think it wasn't so much that MeeGo and Qt was a "burning platform" as it was that it was
too good
. A very slick OS built with a nicely integrated framework & UI toolkit, which is
still being put to good use today
. There's no question that MeeGo would have provided a viable path forward for Nokia's smartphones - certainly more viable than any Windows Phone flavour has proven to be. I
still
prefer my Nokia N9 over any other handset I own, and due to my job I am spoilt with having pretty much all OSes and variants to hand. The "Just Swipe" UI is unbeatable and the experience is more fluid and responsive than anything from Apple & Google. I've got a Jolla as well but although they get the UI mostly right I'm unhappy about its large size, flimsy construction and lack of OLED display.
This is why, every time I hear about another bunch of
useless
"business development" types going over Nokia's corpse to feed on whatever bits of flesh that haven't yet putrefied, I die a little again. Research, design and engineering are what makes a great company; without these activities underpinning what you do you're just running another vapid pyramid scheme for the gullible.
